Lymphatic Drainage is a must to add into your wellness routine.
The Lymphatic System is part of your immune system and protects your body from illness-causing invaders, maintaining body fluid levels, absorbing digestive tract fats and removing cellular waste. Approximately 56% of the body’s fluid is lymph and it takes 24 to 48 hours to pass through the liver, thereafter it leaves the body through the eliminatory system when you go to the loo.
Benefits to Lymphatic Drainage include:
- Fight off infection
- Speed up healing and recovery from the cold and flu
- Reduce water retention
- Boost weight loss
- Improve cellulite, skin swelling, scar tissue, acne, and stretch marks
- Reduce stress and fatigue
- Help with post exercise recovery

Hydration
It is no small wonder that water is often termed “the essence of life”. We know that humans can survive about 3 weeks without food, but only days without water. We also know that the human body is made up of 70% water and that we have an intricate navigation and waste removal system. The lymphatic system is dedicated to channel the water through our body and flush out harmful waste from our cells and organs. If you previously read our blog “Is your Bra Making You Fat?” you will know that this amazing system is almost entirely reliant on water intake and movement.
Why is it then that we wait until we are thirsty before we drink water? If you’re prone to waiting until you’re thirsty, it is purely a matter of establishing a new habit to replenish lost fluids throughout the day instead of waiting until thirst strikes. Waiting until you are thirsty means that your body has already started to dehydrate, and thirst is the first warning sign, next one might experience dry mouth, lips, and eyes, followed by dizzy spells and feeling tired or irritable.
One may also be prone to light-headedness and confusing thirst with hunger is quite common too since the body will try to get hydration by telling you to eat so that your incredible digestive system can extract whatever fluids possible from the food to hydrate your cells and organs. If your urine has a strong odour or if you do not need to wee at least 4 x per day, your body is almost certainly dehydrated.
Internal dehydration is often visible on the skin as, sunken eyes, dark under-eye circles, increased wrinkled appearance, and lack of vitality in the skin. Lack of hydration can impact sleep patterns, cause constipation, and as if we need more motivation to drink water, here it comes! Lack of hydration can result in muscle fatigue, poor athletic performance, and sore stiff muscles post-workout, not to mention the strain on organs which can potentially lead to severe long-term damage.
For a minute, I want you to imagine a dry riverbed, no water running through it. Just a dry muddy riverbed with debris and sludge stuck on the sidewalls, now that is pretty much the lymphatic system of a dehydrated body. Next imagine water rushing through the riverbed, flushing away all that waste into the ocean, the cleansing, refreshing effect of moving water in nature applies to our bodies too.
So how much water is enough? A recommended guideline is to take your body weight, divide that by 10, and add 500 ml water to get the optimal number of 250 ml units you should consume in a day. For example, if you weigh 60 kg, that is 6 x 250 ml units which are equal to 1.5 liters, now add an extra 500 ml for good measure and that equals your optimal water intake per day, in this case, 2 liters of water per day or 8 x 250ml glasses of water.
It is not recommended that one should drink more than 3 liters of water per day, since consuming too much water can lower sodium levels, an important mineral in the body. When sodium is depleted, it may lead to a condition known as hyponatremia, which in turn could cause the body to retain too much water and this can be particularly harmful to the body and organs as well.
Supporting your Detox Journey at Temple
As with everything in life, moderation is key. At Temple Skincare & Spa, we are here to help you find the balance. If you find that you are battling with losing weight or reducing cellulite, start with your water intake. Most of the high-tech MediSpa treatments we offer, provide the most dramatic results when the body is well hydrated.
For example, our skin-toning Radio Frequency, Ultrasound Body Smoothing for Cellulite , and HIFU Body Lift Treatments all rely on the body to be well hydrated to effectively rejuvenate sluggish collagen as well as break down and eliminate fat pockets and stubborn areas. Services like Fat Freeze or Cyrolipolysis as it is often referred to also rely on water intake post-treatment to aid the lymphatic system and the body to dispose of the fat cells which are targeted during the treatment.
We provide additional support for the lymphatic system to aid the waste removal or detox process with the pneumatic air compression system, Dr. Wraps, which can be further enhanced with a herbal wrap system targeted to either drainage, cellulite reduction or fat-burning. Sometimes the body’s waste removal system needs a little extra help too and that’s where advanced body wraps come in.
