Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Skin needling, stimulates a healing cascade to create new collagen, Radio Frequency creates, plumper, denser, stronger collagen by remodelling existing collagen causing it to knitting it tighter as it reform. HIFU, uses focussed beams of sound to pinpoint exact depths in the skin where tiny holes are created that tighten the skin when they heal (all pain free, we promise!)
Harnessing the latest, pain-free technology from Italy, at Temple Skincare & Spa, we use calibrated, in motion HIFU. This means that the operator, your skin therapist has complete control over the depth of treatment and outcome of your results. The device meets the highest safety standards and our team of MediSpa Therapists, are exceptionally well trained in the use of the device and skilled in anatomy and physiology.
In 98% of cases there are no visible aftereffects, you can return to life and work as normal right away, although the skin may be slightly pink and tender to the touch for a few days. Remembering that these focussed beams of sound penetrate beyond the surface of the skin, where they create tiny heat injuries inside the selected layer of the skin, starting at 4.5mm where the muscle layer or SMAS layer is situated.
The SMAS layer provides structure and tone to the skin. An example of an ageing SMAS layer is when you see the naso-labial folds on the side of the nose becoming more pronounced, the jawline sagging or a crepey neck starting to form. This is where HIFU is particularly helpful. During a single HIFU session your therapist will also target the skin at 3mm and 1.5mm, ensuring that they not only tighten the deeper layers of your skin, but also the middle and surface layers.
It is this compounding heat effect, which although completely undetected during the treatment, may result in small welts or raised bumps in some individuals who have high histamine levels or head sensitivities. The welts are annoying to see, but not really uncomfortable and they disappear within 3 to 5 days or sooner with the aid of free LED’s which we provide to support clients prone to welts.
In order to achieve a sculpting and tightening of the jaw line, after your treatment your muscles may feel tender and a little aching in that area. This may last 2 hours or up to a week. This is relatively mild in most cases.
We are often asked this question. The short answer is, no not at Temple Skincare & Spa and not with this particular model of in-motion HIFU, which places absolute control in the therapist’s hands. However, this risk can occur with some HIFU devices on the market that do not have the same safety features as the in-motion HIFU and where therapists are not sufficiently trained in the methods of application. Our MediSpa Therapists have been trained in HIFU by Dr Gregoris Stavrou of Biotec Italia, a respected nano-scientist and international lecturer for multiple MediSpa devices. The training involves extensive theory and practical applications before we are allowed to work on supervised models until the required standards are met. Only then are our MediSpa Therapists authorised to provide the service to our clients.
Skin ageing is caused by multiple factors and as such it is important to use a range of treatment modalities to get optimal results. Your Skincare Expert will examine your skin and discuss your goals with you to determine which approach will be best suited for you. This kind of tailored package is quite common at Temple Skincare & Spa and allows us to harness the exact combination of technology in a program designed with your unique skin type and goals in mind.
In many cases we do not need to incorporate other technologies and going straight to a HIFU treatment is the perfect solution. An example of this would be someone in their mid-30’s, who wants to tone up a little and prolong their youthful appearance. Their collagen is still pretty responsive and therefore we can go straight into a HIFU program and get great results. In the same instance someone who is in their mid-30’s but has a lot of sun damage may fist need to undergo skin needling or peels to repair cellular damage, before proceeding with HIFU.
Yet again, in other cases when dealing with mature collage of 40 years + we almost always encourage a course of skin needling 3 months prior to the HIFU session to kick start the collagen into production mode, which otherwise naturally slows down as we age. There is always an exception to the rule and sometimes, clients in their 40s, have very responsive collagen, but lack tone (this is due to the elastin degrading), and they too could go straight into HIFU. In all instances, we combine HIFU with 2 Radio Frequency support treatments to boost and strengthen collagen production for good measure and maximum results.
We also use HIFU to target and firm areas of the body like the triceps and to perform our popular knee lift procedure.
The best way to determine this is to book a no-obligation consultation with our MediSpa therapists who will assess your skin, discuss your goals, and make the appropriate recommendation for you, with a program tailored to meet your needs.
