Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
They are from the same family, but the application is different. Skin needling, as the name suggests always involves the penetration of micro needles into specific depths of the skin, depending on what the desired result is. For example, if the client and the Skin Technician decide that the goal is collagen stimulation, then working on less that 1.25 mm would not be sufficient to stimulate collagen, as collagen producing cells are stimulated at a minimum depth of 1.25 mm. Now you can see why a modern clinic like Temple Skincare & Spa uses an Automated Microneedling device. Naturally and automated system is more accurate than the manual rollers, where depth cannot be adjusted and rolling pins into the skin with consistent pressure near impossible. For accuracy and consistent results, we only use Automated Microneedling systems that meet the highest industry safety standards. In addition, our microneedling system incorporates electroporation, a special current for advanced penetration of active ingredients found in the custom selected ampoules applied to the skin during the needling process.
There are different ways to achieve Mesotherapy and one of the most effective methods by far is through automated skin needling, where microchannels are created to the exact depth required for delivery of the ingredients. Mesotherapy is the induction of active ingredients into specific layers of the skin, where these ingredients target certain conditions like, skin tone and texture, sebum (oil) regulation, collagen formation, and scar revision. Although the active ingredients play an important role in supporting the skin to bring about these changes, they would have little to no chance of working if they are not delivered to the correct layers in the skin. Skin needling is proven to provide excellent skin regeneration when used on its own, although we would never offer dry skin needling as the benefits pale in comparison to skin needling delivered the addition of active ingredients like Collagen Stimulators, Immune Boosters, Pigment Regulators and Hydrating Factors.
Every precaution is taken to make the treatment as comfortable as possible; the first 30 minutes is actually quite relaxing. When the treatment starts you may feel a very mild scratchy sensation, although this is barely a factor when we ask clients about their comfort levels during the procedure. Post treatment you may feel a little tender and be slightly red and swollen, but that is all quite normal and subsides in 3 days. Treatments of less than 1 mm depth are more of a “Beauty Flash” offering a superficial infusion of plumping, hydrating ingredients for an immediate glow and no down time. Treatments deeper than 1 mm, may present minor aftereffects which clear within a few days and the results are well worth it.
For shallow treatments, the glow is immediate and lasts about 3 to 4 weeks depending on your homecare routine and lifestyle factors. For deeper regeneration or corrective treatments, you would require 1 visit every 28 days for 3 months to provide sufficient stimulation and see a significant change in skin texture, tone, collagen regeneration and a reduction in wrinkle depth or scar rejuvenation. Most clients start to notice about 25% change in the first month, 50% in the second month and 75% in the third month, with results that continue to show for months after the last procedure is done.
Day of treatment:
You will be provided with homecare instructions and a skincare pack to use for the next 3 days. After 3 days, store it away to use again on your future visits. Your skin will be red, slightly swollen and feel as if you have had too much sun on this day. The little micro channels that we have made in your skin will remain open for numerous hours post needling procedure, so it is imperative that you do not touch our face, no make-up and do not wash it the day of your procedure. Fresh pillow case this night and start your post care kit the next morning.
Recovery Day 1 to 3
The skin will start to tighten, many confuse this with feeling “dry”, although day 3 your skin may start to flake, shedding the micro scabs where the needles penetrated the skin. Rest assured, this is all completely normal
Recovery day 4 to 6
As part of your homecare routine you are provided with a gentle exfoliator and deeply nourishing creams, you will want to use these by now to slough off any dead skin and start looking after the new glowing complexion you are starting to see.
Recovery Day 7 to 10
Your therapist will advise when you can stary your LED recovery lights, this is usually 7 to 10 days after the skin needling session and includes 2 visits per week for 2 weeks. Your skin will feel and look radiant after the first LED light and you will start to enjoy the benefits of your hard work and perseverance. This process is repeated 3 x for deep, lasting results.
