Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
The pain-free medical grade laser that we have at Temple Skincare & Spa, is quite different to most other lasers on the market. Our laser is imported from Italy and has state of the art cooling technology, with cold water that circulates through the plate as the laser is emitted onto the skin. This means the skin is constantly cooled before during and after the laser procedure. The reason why most lasers hurt is because of the method used to cool the skin. The most common machine on the market uses cryogen gas to cool the surface of the skin and then the laser is applied. This change in temperature not only excites the nerve endings, making it painful, but it also overstimulates the melanocytes, which are cells that create pigmentation.
With our laser, the therapist has absolute control of the settings and we are even able to treat olive and ethnic skin tones due to the convenience of intensity that can be adjusted. PIH (Post inflammatory pigmentation), is a leading concern for light-based therapies and darker skin tones, since darker skin tones naturally produce more melanin in the skin, which can turn to visible, uneven pigmentation if the skin is traumatised.
Before your laser session the therapist will provide a thorough consultation to assess your suitability for the laser procedure and eliminate any chance of unwanted side effects. Our laser technicians are thoroughly trained and certified to deliver safe, effective Laser therapies.
Our laser is a multi-platform device, which means it offers laser and IPL/CPL modalities for Skin Rejuvenation & Capillary Reduction, Hair Removal with the Diode Laser, and a specialised Laser option for treatment of Toenail Fungus.
The difference is in the way the light and therefore heat source is distributed in the skin. With laser it is a straight beam of focussed light, like a laser pointer one would use in a presentation and with IPL (also referred to as CPL), the light is more diffused or fanned out, like with a flashlight. Both modalities of Laser and IPL/CPL have a role to play in hair removal and skin rejuvenation, however, IPL is far less effective at hair removal.
Clinical trials indicate that Laser Hair removal is 80% more effective than IPL/CPL treatment. Also with hair removal, IPL/CPL has certain limitations for use on darker skin types, so for safety reasons, we only ever use our Diode Laser for Hair Removal. That said, IPL is a great way to reverse Photodamage or Sun damage and redness or capillaries on large areas like the chest and face, however sometimes one requires a focussed treatment on a spot area, which is where laser comes in handy as the light is more targeted.
If under 18, your parent/guardian will be required to sign the treatment consent form. We do not recommend having Laser or IPL hair removal under the age of 16 as your hormones are still settling and they are largely responsible for the regrowth of hair, so your results may not be as effective during these periods of hormone adjustment.
The number of sessions depends on what you are targeting for example:
Laser Hair Removal
We achieve about 80% - 95% reduction in 10 sessions. No one will ever be 100% hair-free, due to hormones and the way the body is designed to regenerate, but you can get close to that. The pace of hair reduction depends on the type and volume of hair growth, hereditary factors, and certain medications. There is no downtime with hair removal, just remember to shave the day before your session and not on the day, so that your skin is not sensitised before the treatment. For male clients sessions should be booked every 6 weeks and for female clients every 4 weeks, to ensure that we target the hair follicle in the right phase of the hair growth cycle.
Laser Skin Rejuvenation & Capillary Treatment
Laser Skin Rejuvenation involves mild to moderate scabbing and a few days of flaking on the treated areas, for example the removal of a dark spot or cluster of deeper capillaries. Usually, results are achieved within 1 to 3 treatments, depending on the type and severity of the condition. The frequency of sessions will depend on the size of the area being treated and your therapist will be able to assess this during the initial consultation, a general rule would be to wait 28 days between sessions for the skin to fully recover.
IPL/CPL Skin Rejuvenation & Capillary Treatment
The is probably the least invasive way of achieving even skin tone for mottled pigmentation, which simply turns the pigment to a darker tone for a few days and then flakes of without being noticed. This is a more superficial type of scabbing, so not noticeable in most cases. Similarly with the Capillary Treatment, there is slight discolouration of the capillaries and then they simply dissolve as the body absorbs the and discards the treated cells. It is recommended that you wait 28 days between sessions for the skin to fully recover.
You will be surprised at how affordable Laser Therapy really is. We have a range of packages to cater for all your needs.
- Before the treatment, ensure that your skin is free of fragrance, cosmetics, creams, self-tan, or deodorants
- With hair removal, shave the area to be treated the day before, so that your skin is not sensitive on the day
- There needs to be visible dark stubs, at least 1mm in length for the laser to detect the hair and treat effectively
- Always avoid the sun and wear a minimum of SPF 30 after the procedure
