Hormonal breakouts to clear skin goals are very common for teens in puberty, but adults of any age can also get this type of acne. Learn how you can clear up your skin in just 10 days with this routine.
Hormones are the leading cause for triggering breakouts on otherwise healthy skin. It’s estimated that 50 percent of women ages 20 to 29 have acne. It affects about 25 percent of women ages 40 to 49.
Hormonal acne may be caused by hormonal changes from:
- menstruation
- polycystic ovarian syndrome
- menopause
- increased androgen levels
This may aggravate acne issues by triggering:
- overall skin inflammation
- increased oil (sebum) production in the pores
- clogged skin cells in hair follicles
- production of acne-causing bacteria called Propionibacterium acnes
Our dear Temple Therapist Lucille had a hormonal breakout about 2 weeks ago, “…turns out even being classified as a ‘geriatric pregnancy’ does not exclude one from Acne.” Other than hormones, factors that may trigger breakouts include a raise in cortisol levels due to stress, lifestyle factors, poor gut health and vitamin or mineral deficiencies to name a few.
Hormonal Breakout Treatment
In some mild cases, OTC topical treatment options can work, but oftentimes, hormonal acne takes the form of cystic bumps. These bumps form deep under the skin, where most topical medications will just not work. Thankfully, Lucille has shared her skincare process on what worked to clear up her skin!
Overall, it took 5 days to get the breakout under control, using a combination of active ingredients which included exfoliating acids like AHAs & BHAs along with restorative, anti-inflammatory ingredients like Probiotics, Vitamin C, and Liquorice. A further 5 days of treatment ensured 90% of the blemishes cleared within 10 days and continued use of the active ingredients will see the remaining blemishes lighten and fade over the next few days.

Daily Routine
- Clear Cell Cleanser 2 x daily — Gently remove excess oil while lightly exfoliating dead skin cells and keeping skin smooth and soft. Cleanse twice daily, morning and night. Don’t scrub your skin though as this will lead only to further irritation.
- Clear Cell Wipes alternate nights — Salicylic acid is a natural exfoliant to fight acne. These pads deeply clears clogged pores and follicles to leave skin fresh and clean.
- Illuma Serum — An oil-free serum that treats skin discolorations and redness is a must! This one comes with Vitamin C and grape seed extract that also soothes the inflammation.
- Matte SPF — A good SPF to finish off your routine, no matter the weather or season is just as important as all the steps. For treating acne, opt for a oil-free mattifying moisturizer.
Night Care
- Germaine de Capuccini Age Cure Serum — (for the “geriatric” part, lols!) Love the light, non-greasy formula, plus it comes with pre and probiotics, and hydrating and collagen repair factors for healing.
Mask Routine
- Power Peel 1x per week — This exfoliating trio is just amazing in ensuring results in brightening, refining texture, and unclogging pores. Check out the demo below:
- Image Probiotic Mask 2x per week — Our skin needs a healthy balance of pre and probiotics in order to ensure a healthy immune system and resist bacterial invasion. A probiotic mask is a great way to support your skin.
