Are you tired of looking tired? For a non-invasive, pain-free spa treatment that can help you feel better about your skin, it might be time to try skin needling.
Do you look in the mirror and feel frustrated because what you see doesn’t match the way you feel inside? For many of us, a busy lifestyle combined with a lifetime of sun exposure and the unavoidable consequences of ageing means we look tired or cross when we’re not. It comes as no surprise that the desire to slow down the effects of ageing is becoming mainstream and expanding into a multi-billion dollar industry around the world. As people strive to find new ways to revitalise dull, lifeless skin, more and more people are turning to the option of spa treatments like skin needling, which is also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT).
Skin needling is quick and cost-effective. You may be surprised at how many everyday people drop into The Temple Skincare & Spa, requesting this spa treatment to feel better about their skin and to achieve their skin goals.

What is skin needling and how does it work?
Electronic skin needling uses a revolutionary medical procedure that is clinically proven to stimulate natural tissue regeneration. This is called a collagen response. As the needles puncture the skin, your body goes into healing mode and two things happen:
- Your body produces collagen and elastin which helps your skin look firmer and smoother
- Cell renewal takes place, which can even out your skin tone
This spa treatment can be used to treat a range of concerns such as wrinkles, crepey skin, open pores, pigmentation, stretch marks or scarring. It is available for clients of all ages.
Is it painful?
At the mention of needles, you’d be forgiven for thinking that this procedure is painful and possibly even causes bleeding. Happily, neither is true (we wouldn’t recommend it if it were)!
The needles used in skin needling at our Castle Hill Medi Spa are microscopic and are gently rolled over your skin for under 30 minutes. The procedure causes little to no discomfort and only a temporary redness and minor swelling for a day. As the needles are applied over the skin, tiny punctures are created within the epidermis and dermis that encourage the skin’s own natural healing reaction. Meanwhile, you’ll notice astonishing results within four weeks and your skin will continue to improve over the following months.
Normally, your therapist will check and go over a few ground rules, like ensuring that you hadn’t had any filler or Botox for at least four weeks prior to the procedure. This is because cosmetic needling can break Botox or filler down and also potentially move filler around.
You can expect no soreness and no blood, but the skin will appear quite red and flushed only for a day or two.

Why choose skin needling over other skin treatments?
So many facial skin treatments are available to help us manage our skin so we can feel more confident without having to wear a lot of makeup. These include dermal fillers, lasering, HIFU, LED and chemical peels.
The advantages of skin needling over some of these other skin-enhancing treatments are:
- Minimally invasive
- More comfortable than other, more aggressive treatments
- Low risk with a short recovery time
- More cost-effective than fractional laser-surfacing (according to the International Dermal Institute)

How do I know if it works?
After the procedure, your therapist will normally advise you to not use make-up on the treated area for 24 hours after, and a skincare serum will be recommended as part of the post-procedure skincare. Sunscreen with 50 SPF is to be applied from 12 hours after the procedure every day and to limit sun exposure for at least 28 days because the skin is very sensitive after the treatment.
In terms of results, skin needling, is like a “mini facelift” treating fine lines, pigmentation, uneven skin tone and texture. You can expect your skin to feel tighter straight away with the results becoming more evident around three-to-six weeks later.
Rest assured too that as stated in a recent study skin needling is a “safe, minimally invasive, and effective esthetic treatment for several different dermatologic conditions.”
If you research the technique, you’ll find plenty of peer-reviewed research, including this report which finds “micro needling is an effective modality of treatment.”

Skin needling before & after — how many treatments will it take to notice a difference?
After the redness subsides, the treated area which may have appeared pretty dry before the treatment, will look really refreshed and smooth. And the results, as promised, will keep getting better.
For the best results from skin needling, the experienced practitioners at The Temple Skincare & Spa usually recommend one to three treatments, four to six weeks apart.
However, everyone has their own unique skin type. To determine the treatment you need, we will spend time with you to assess your skin and understand what you want to achieve. We can then ensure skin needling is the best treatment for you and determine how many sessions are required.
